Responsive UI
Successful applications work anywhere, in any channel, and at any time.
Constellation delivers both responsive UI and adaptive UI.
A responsive UI optimizes a design or layout across a variety of devices and sizes. This not only improves user experiences on smaller devices, but ensures better usability for the low vision community, and is part of the international WCAG standard for accessibility.
An adaptive UI determines what is displayed on the screen, based on conditional logic and the context of the layout. For example, input sizes increasing on touch-enabled devices.
The following features in Constellation promote responsive and adaptive UI out of the box:
- High contrast and clarity— mobile devices are often used in busy, distracting, bright, or dark environments. Constellation follows accessibility guidelines on contrast to ensure clarity in these situations.
- Appropriate sizing— all interactive items are made large enough to accommodate large fingers on small devices. When resizing, Constellation looks for changes in 500-pixel increments. Some changes only appear below 500 pixels, some at 1000 and below, and others at size 2000 px and above.
- Efficient use of device features— features available on a typical device are used only to enhance the user experience. For example, switching a keyboard to numbers when the user is on a currency field.
